Homework

At Alexandra Primary we believe children need time to be creative and immersed in the community they live in. Children need time to be children…

There is no set homework for children but we do believe reading each day is a great life long habit. Children may also choose to ‘flip’ their classroom learning and carry on at home.

Digital Technology

At Alexandra Primary, we encourage children to bring their own device to school to help support their learning. We do recommend Chromebooks as we believe they are a good choice long term, but this is a family choice. We are using technology in a variety of ways in the classroom and it is great to see our students embracing the associated skills.

Keeping up to date

Our school newsletter is published every week (emailed). This ensures parents are kept up to date with events, class learning and celebrations of learning successes.

HERO

This is our school's management system. It is a digital platform for parents, children and staff. Children have goals-based assessment that you will see in real time and children and staff will add evidence to show progress. This is a great way to engage with your child's learning. We encourage you to comment on your child's learning posts.

When your child starts school you will be given a step by step guide on how to view your child’s learning. Click here to read the new parent Hero information letter

Uniform

Uniform can be purchased at The Warehouse. There is also a selection of second hand uniform items in the office block.

School Visits

If you are about to have a 5 year old in your home we would love you to make contact.

We like to start with a welcome tour around the school, followed by meeting the class teacher and making dates and times for school visits.

Children at Alexandra Primary start school on their birthday. We are flexible on school visits for your child. We understand that every child is different and will therefore vary in the number of visits they require.

Year 1 & 8 Buddies

When your child starts school they will be assigned a Year 8 buddy for the year. This is a special relationship that develops over the year. Our buddies regularly do a range of activities together.

Lunches

Every second Friday we have "Feed our Whānau" - a passionate group of parents prepare and serve lunch for the whole school!

We have a pie warmer at school if you want to send along food wrapped in tin foil, and named. This will be collected in the morning and put in the pie warmer, then delivered at lunch time.

Enviroschools

Alexandra Primary is an Enviroschool - Bronze. This means we do our best to look after our environment and look at ways we can reduce, reuse or recycle. There are some rubbish bins at school, however we recycle paper and cardboard and have food scrap buckets. We encourage children’s lunchboxes to be packaged as environmentally friendly as possible and all rubbish is sent back home in your child’s lunchbox.

Garden Club

Every Tuesday and Thursday we have our Garden Club running from 10.15am-10.45am.

We love planting and maintaining our school garden. We use some of the produce to feed everyone in our school on a Friday.
